Kits will be back in stock in October!
The Golden Poppy Cardigan is the newest pattern from Noriko Ho, and is only available in printed copies of By Hand Serial's Lookbook 13: Northern California. We teamed up with Noriko to create some special colorways exclusively for her incredible design, and are pleased to offer them here as kits!
Each kit includes a copy of Lookbook 13, and if you choose your bust measurement from the dropdown menu (don't forget to think about how much ease you want), we'll make sure you get the correct number of skeins.
There is also an option to purchase a kit without the book, which you can find by clicking here, but keep in mind this pattern isn't available digitally or in print anywhere else. We included this option for those who have already ordered a copy elsewhere or who have a subscription to By Hand Serial. If you would like to purchase just a copy of Lookbook 13 on its own, which includes several beautiful knitting and sewing patterns, click here.
- Oranges: This is the original colorway set featured in Lookbook 13! Bonfire at the Beach is a nutty, gently variegated terra cotta clay color, which is then speckled with our signature orange UV-reactive dye. Under black light the speckles glow like tiny embers, giving a magical sparkle, and the effect can even be subtly seen in sunlight. California Poppies is the perfect pure poppy orange, ever so lightly speckled onto an ecru background. It adds the visual interest of a speckled yarn while not being too busy for delicate colorwork.
- Yellows: Sun's out, buns out is a sun-kissed yellow hue with some gentle peach and flesh undertones, and is speckled with luminous bright yellow that glows in black light. Sunflower Seeds is an ecru base very lightly speckled with a mix of colors including ochre, brown, green, yellow, orange, grey, and even a little red. It adds another layer of depth and dimension to delicate colorwork when paired with its partner.
- Greens: Blackberry Picking is the color of new growth, like a vine reaching for the sun. Gentle variegation lends tones of sage and olive to the mix, and a speckling of neon purple gives off a juicy floral quality, bright in sunlight and luminous in black light. Forest for the Trees is an ecru very gently speckled with a rich forest green, with undertones of chartreuse and pin points of brown. It reminds us of a redwood grove on a misty morning at the coast. It will play closely with its partner yarn, but will stand out just enough in colorwork.
- Blues: Sea Forager is a bright sea blue, like the ocean reflecting puffy clouds on a bright day. Fresh indigo undertones are balanced against the bright green speckles that look like seaweed in a tide pool, and bioluminescent sea life under a black light. June Gloom is how we feel when we spot that bright chip of blue sky through the fog that settles over summer in Northern California. Reminiscent of blue and white china patterns, the pure cobalt pops on an ecru background will interplay perfectly against other shades of blue.
Golden Poppy is a stunning buttonless cardigan designed to be knit with anywhere between +2" to -2" of ease. It has fitted sleeves and is designed to hit mid-hip, making it a flattering silhouette on all body types. The mosaic knitting colorwork band around the waist adds beautiful detail and gives the illusion of shaping without the effort. The collar and sleeve cuffs are faded into the contrast color for visual interest and a pop of color against the face. Thoughtful details abound in this top-down, beautifully constructed, seamless garment.
